Russell E. Planitzer, Managing Principal, Lazard Technology Partners
Mr. Planitzer is a Managing Principal of Lazard Technology Partners (LTP). Mr. Planitzer co-founded LTP with Kevin J. Burns in 1998 and has since then headed the firm's New York office. From 1981 through 1993, he served as a general partner at JH Whitney, where he established a strong investment record by focusing on early-stage technology and emerging-growth companies, including the incubation and founding of Wellfleet Communications, Inc. (renamed Bay Networks, Inc.).
In 1993, Mr. Planitzer left JH Whitney to become Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Computervision, where he reorganized the business and restored its profitability. Mr. Planitzer led Computervision to profitability by the end of 1995, in recognition of which he was named "CEO of the Year: 1995" by D.H. Brown and Associates. Mr. Planitzer orchestrated the sale of Computervision to Parametric Technology Corporation.
Mr. Planitzer holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy. Additionally, he is a past director of the National Venture Capital Association.
Steven M. Brackett, General Partner, Ironside Ventures
Mr. Brackett is a General Partner of Ironside Ventures, focusing on transaction origination and portfolio company management in each of the Firm's target industry sectors. Mr. Brackett brings over 19 years of experience in the technology and investment fields. Prior to co-founding Ironside, and its predecessor, MF Private Capital, he managed the Corporate Advisory and Investment Banking services for the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi Capital Corporation (BTMCC). Before joining BTMCC, Mr. Brackett was the President and Chief Operating Officer of State Street Business Group, Inc., a Boston-based investment banking concern. He also held senior positions at First Winthrop Securities; Hoenig & Co., Inc.; and Drexel, Burnham & Lambert, Inc. He has been engaged in notable investments such as StarGen, Inc.; Tritel, Inc. (acquired first by TeleCorp PCS, Inc. and later by AT&T Wireless, Inc.); Cerulean Technology, Inc. (acquired by Aether Systems, Inc.); Elastic Networks, Inc. (acquired by Paradyne Networks, Inc.), and Oratec Interventions, Inc. (acquired by Smith Nephew).
Mr. Brackett was a 2001 recipient of the T.O.Y.L. (Ten Outstanding Young Leaders) award from the Boston Junior Chamber of Commerce and was a 2002 recipient of the Boston Business Journal 40 under 40 awards. He also serves on a number of charitable boards, including the Massachusetts Mentoring Partnership, the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, The American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay, Kieve Affective Education and the Reaching Back Foundation. Mr. Brackett holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bates College.
Barry Cohen, Ph.D., Executive Vice President for Strategic Services and Partners, PTC
Mr. Cohen is the Executive Vice President for Strategic Services and Partners at PTC (The Product Development Company). He is responsible for PTC's global human resources, customer care, and technical support, enterprise consulting partners, global services consulting and operations, as well as, Product FirstTM practice and education services. Mr. Cohen joined PTC in January 1988, when PTC acquired Computervision. Prior to the acquisition, Mr. Cohen served with Computervision for four years as Senior Vice President for human development and organizational productivity. Before joining Computervision, Mr. Cohen was the president of Possibilities, Inc., an executive consulting firm specializing in organizational change and executive coaching, where he served for 13 years. Mr. Cohen has authored or co-authored several books on leadership and organizational change, including "The Wellness Sourcebook, Ethical Leadership," "Leadership Myths and Realities," and "The Possibilities Economy: New Capital Development." Mr. Cohen has also published many professional articles and a series of training manuals. Mr. Cohen holds a Ph.D. in Logic and Philosophy of Science from the University of Buffalo.
Keith Hall, Former Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, LendingTree, LLC
Mr. Hall is the retired Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of LendingTree, LLC, the leading on-line lending and real estate exchange. Mr. Hall, who joined LendingTree in 1999, shortly after its inception, built the financial and accounting organizations, implemented the company's financial controls, and successfully took the company public in its February 2000 IPO. Mr. Hall was also heavily involved in the company's evaluation of the unsolicited acquisition offer by InterActive Corp; the deal was successfully consummated in August 2003. Mr. Hall spent the majority of his 27-year career in financial positions of increasing responsibility at United Technologies Corporation (UTX), including serving as Chief Financial Officer for Carrier, North America, a $2 billion division he helped turn around. His UTX experience also included heavy emphasis on operational analysis and acquisitions, mostly in international business environments.
Prior to joining LendingTree, Inc., Mr. Hall served as Chief Financial Officer for two public software and services companies, Legent Corporation (LGNT) and Broadway & Seymour, Inc. (BSIS), as well as the publicly-held, specialty chemical company, Loctite (LOC). Larger enterprises acquired all three companies. Mr. Hall is as an Audit Committee member of the NewRiver Board of Directors. He also is the Chairman of the Audit and Compensation Committees of the Board of Directors of International Music Television, Inc., a television start-up company, and a member of the Board of Directors of MTM Technologies, a provider of IT solutions and services to Global 2000 and mid-size companies. Mr. Hall holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business Administration from Coe College, and an MBA from Harvard Business School, where he was distinguished as a Baker Scholar.
Arthur Loring, Former Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Fidelity Management & Research Co.
Mr. Loring chairs the Audit Committee of the NewRiver Board of Directors. His experience includes a distinguished 25-year career; from 1972 to 1998 at Fidelity Management & Research Co. Mr. Loring has previously been a Managing Director of Cypress Holding Co. and Spyglass Investments, LLC. He has also served as the Director of the Global Alliances Value Investors, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Advantage Bank, and as a member of the Board of Directors of 1st United Bank. Mr. Loring holds a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from Washington and Lee University and a JD, cum laude from Boston University, where he was Case Editor of the Boston University Law Review.
Gerald Poch, Senior Managing Director Infrastructure & IT Services, FirstMark Capital (formerly Pequot Ventures)
Mr. Poch joined FirstMark Capital (Pequot Ventures) in 1998. As a managing general partner he focuses on technology infrastructure and IT services investments. Mr. Poch brings more than 30 years of operating and transaction experience to his role. He has sponsored such successful companies as NETGEAR Inc. (NASDAQ: NTGR), Arrowpoint Communications, acquired by Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO), Celiant Corporation, spun out of Lucent (NYSE: LU) and acquired by Andrew Corp. (NASDAQ: ANDW), Sycamore Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: SYCR), Service Metrics Inc., acquired by Exodus Communications Inc. (NASDAQ: EXDS) and eShare Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: ESHR). Previously, Mr. Poch was the Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of GE Capital Information Technology Solutions, a $10 billion technology solutions provider.
Prior to GE Capital, Mr. Poch was a founder, co-chairman and co-president of AmeriData Technologies Inc. (NYSE: ASA), a value-added reseller and systems integrator of hardware and software systems. Mr. Poch built AmeriData from a start-up to $3.5 billion in revenue until its acquisition by GE Capital in 1996. Prior to AmeriData, Mr. Poch was a founder and senior officer of a number of successful telecommunications startups, including TIE Communications Inc. and SBC Technologies Inc. Mr. Poch holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and English from the University of Connecticut Honors College, and a J.D., cum laude, from Boston University Law School.
